This one is for you, Momma.

Ashwagandha for balancing those hormones and postpartum blues, Schisandra berry for adaptogens for stress and cortisol levels, Morninga for milk production, Dandelion Root for liver support, Nettle, Oatstraw and Alfalfa for remineralizing and blood building and Red Raspberry Leaf for uterine toning. Throw in some Seedless Rosehips for flavor and vitamin c and you've got yourself a "fourth trimester" blend.

A little more about the herbs and why I chose them:

Ashwagandha is an adaptogenic herb that helps your body adapt to stress.

It works via the HPA-axis to help modulate the stress hormone that the body produces.

Ashwagandha is my favorite herb for postpartum women because it helps to support normal energy and is known for regulating postpartum anxiety and depression.

It is also known for its adaptogenic properties, which means it helps the body cope with stress and promotes overall well-being. Ashwagandha is believed to have a wide range of health benefits, including reducing inflammation, improving sleep, and supporting hormonal balance. These benefits can be particularly valuable for new mothers who often experience hormonal imbalances, sleep disturbances, and postpartum blues.

Furthermore, Ashwagandha is known for its immune-boosting properties. It contains compounds that stimulate the production of immune cells, strengthening the body’s defense mechanisms. This can be beneficial for breastfeeding mothers, as a strong immune system is essential for maintaining overall health and preventing illnesses that could impact both the mother and the baby.

Traditional Ayurvedic texts suggest that Ashwagandha may have galactagogue properties, meaning it can stimulate milk production. These claims are based on anecdotal evidence and observations in traditional medicine practices.

Ashwagandha is not deemed safe by the FDA for pregnant women although it has been used for centuries in pregnancies so if you air on the side of caution, do not take while pregnant. Always talk with your health professional or doctor before incorporating any herbs into your diet, especially while pregnant or breastfeeding.

Schisandra is another powerful adaptogen that optimizes liver function and detoxification, assists the metabolism and excretion of toxins that add chronic stress and inflammation to the body.

Called the “five flavors fruit,” this berry has been traditionally used by Siberian hunters to support energy and stamina. Newer research also suggests that it’s helpful for optimizing immune function. Schisandra is also a superior herb for stress and adrenal function and helps calm the nervous system.

Adaptogenic herbs have been used for thousands of years to naturally raise the body’s resistance to environmental stress, anxiety, toxin exposure, emotional trauma and mental fatigue. Because Schisandra helps nurture the adrenal glands and turns down an overproduction of “stress hormones” like cortisol, it’s linked with better mental capabilities, physical endurance and metabolic health.

Moringa is the last herb I will highlight.

Moringa is one of the best natural remedies for low production of breast milk.

Moringa leaves, in addition to containing dozens of vitamins, minerals, nutrients, amino acids, and antioxidants, also contain something called plant sterols. Plant sterols have been known to lower cholesterol and can actually help prevent heart disease and is also known to help increase estrogen, which in turn increases the production of milk. In fact, the United Nations’ Food and Agricultural Organization itself recommend Moringa leaves and powder to both pregnant nursing mothers:

Leaves are rich in protein, vitamins A, B and C, and minerals – highly recommended for pregnant and nursing mothers as well as young children.

Moringa leaves are a natural galactagogue: a product that increases lactation and milk supply.

Studies have shown that Moringa’s rich nutrient profile is capable of doubling milk production by as much as 100% and that it’s entirely safe, with minimal to no negative effects. Moringa is even recommended by world health organizations to nursing mothers.

**It advisable for nursing mothers to exercise caution and consult with their healthcare provider before incorporating any herbs into their routine. It is also worth noting that any herbs may interact with certain medications, so it is crucial to consult with a healthcare professional if you are taking any prescription drugs. It is recommended to start with a low dosage and monitor any potential effects on both the mother and the baby. Breastfeeding mothers should also be aware that individual responses to herbs may vary. What works for one person may not work for another. It is important to listen to your body and pay attention to any changes or reactions while consuming any herbs. Please consult with your health care professional before taking to make sure it’s a right fit for you and your baby. Michelle’s Well is not held liable for any reactions you or your baby may have.**These blends are not intended to treat, cure or heal any ailments.**

I hope you enjoy. Be well, Momma and Baby!
