Calling all nursing Mama’s!

This nursing herbal tea blend can help you with the production of nutrient-dense optimized milk supply! My goal in creating this blend is to help support your milk production while nourishing not only your body but your baby’s body at the same time. I’ve left out the bitter herbs that can be found in other lactation support teas. I wanted to create a tea that not only helps with your lactation flow but is also enjoyable to drink!

Please consult with a health care practitioner or an experienced herbalist before using any herbs regularly or in higher doses during lactation. When choosing herbs, It’s important to be informed and to pay attention to you and your baby’s unique needs. The herbs used in this blend are all mild, food-like herbs that are generally considered safe when used in tea and are likely to increase milk supply. This is no guarantee and is not medical advice.

Galactagogue herbs, such as those in this lactation blend, aid in initiating and maintaining adequate milk production.

Anise is a galactagogue herb and it is commonly included in formulas to support milk production. Its sweet and pleasant flavor makes for a delicious lactation tea. It has the ability to soothe a colicky infant, as some of its constituents can be passed through to the milk.

Fennel, another common galactagogue herb, may increase the quality and volume of milk and is well known as a digestive aid due to its carminative and antispasmodic properties. These actions are attributed primarily to the plant’s volatile oils, which relax the gastrointestinal tract to reduce muscular pain and discomfort caused by tension in the gut. As many of the volatile oils are carried through to milk, just like anise, fennel has the ability ease colic and indigestion in infants.

The following herbs I’ve included in this blend is to boost your nutrient supply during lactation and is also a wonderfully nourishing postpartum support.

Oatstraw: The oat plant is rich in minerals and trace nutrients including magnesium, phosphorus, silica, chromium, calcium, iron, protein, B vitamins and vitamins A, C, E, and K. Oatstraw is perfect for boosting nutrients and building deep immunity. It nourishes, strengthens, and repairs tissues and muscles throughout the body, making it a helpful nourishing herb postpartum. It also helps to soothe and strengthen the nerves. It’s considered one of the best herbs for “feeding” and restoring the nervous system, particularly in times of stress and in the case of nervous system weakness or exhaustion associated with depression, overwork, or emotional trauma.

Nettles: Nettles is extremely nourishing to the blood. Its nutritive components are because of its rich vitamin, mineral, amino acid, and chlorophyll content. It contains abundant calcium, magnesium, silica, iron and vitamins A, C, E, and K as well as several other minerals.

As a galactagogue, nettles increases the quality and quantity of milk. As a hemostatic (due to its high level of vitamin K) and astringent, nettle is used to reduce excessive menstrual bleeding or excessive bleeding anywhere in the body.

Red Raspberry Leaf: Nutritive red raspberry leaves is perfect for a lactation blend because of its high vitamin and mineral content. It’s nourishing not only for the mother but also the child. Its tonic effect on the womb has been known to bolster against excess postpartum bleeding, caused by a relaxed uterus. Following birth, a raspberry leaf infusion is used as a uterine tonic to help restore the elasticity of the womb and uterine ligaments, and also supports digestion. As a galactagogue, it has been known to increase the flow of breast milk.
