Kava Kalm

$32.99

This herbal blend has been beloved by me for over a year now. I’ve used it in the evenings before answering my DMs when I’m feeling a little too anxious to jump in and be social. A little about Kava:

Kava kava (Piper methysticum: Latin for 'pepper' and Latinized Greek means 'intoxicating') is a crop of the Pacific Islands. The name kava is from Tongan, meaning 'bitter'. It has a very earthy flavor. Kava is consumed for its sedating effects throughout the Pacific Ocean cultures of Polynesia.

The root of the plant is used to produce a drink with sedative, anesthetic, and euphoriant properties. Its active ingredients are called kavalactones. A 2003 systemic review concluded it had a small effect for treating short-term anxiety. https://www.cochrane.org/CD003383/DEPRESSN_kava-extract-for-treating-anxiety

Kava produces a state of calmness, relaxation, and well-being without diminishing cognitive performance. Kava may produce an initial talkative period, followed by muscle relaxation and eventual sleepiness.

Kava is the herbal derivative of a Benzodiazepine. Kava taken in combination with Alprazolam can cause a semicomatose state in humans. Do not drink if currently taking Xanex, if you have any liver conditions or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

From The Herbal Academy’s website: “Kava is best-known and studied as an herb that addresses acute stress responses, nervous and social anxiety, and insomnia. Herbalist jim mcdonald says kava is most effective when one is overwhelmed and muscular tension is present (mcdonald, n.d.). Kava helps us to let down social barriers. It can help when one has social anxiety or stage fright. Some feel kava is a relaxing herb, while others feel it acts as more of a hypnotic and sedative. While herbalists may differ in their opinions of how to categorize kava, many do agree that its effects are dose-dependent. Studies have shown that the appropriate use of kava causes no negative cognitive effects or physiological dependency (Gendle, Stroman, & Mullin, 2011; Singh, 1992), making it an effective option for a variety of anxiety-related imbalances.”

I’ve also combined Indian sarsaparilla into this blend to give it a sweeter flavor. Indian sarsaparilla has a stronger vanilla and cinnamon taste compared to the American type. The chamomile in this blend brightens and sweetness the earth tones of the kava while the cinnamon, ginger and cardamom seeds round the flavors to tie it all together, giving it a dimension that has become my absolute favorite tea I’ve ever created or tried. I hope you love it too!!
